Children

Over the last few weeks a more discernable trend in Maeve’s musical tastes an behaviour has become apparent. I am a “folkie” – nothing to be ashamed of, but someone who likes traditional music of most nations but with a particular emphasis on my on Celtic race of Ireland/Scotland and England. One of my favourite groups is “Fairport Convention” and I recently bought a new album which had a track called “Si Tu Dois Partir” and it really excites Maeve. Its a catchy tune, even though my French is rusty I like it and for Maeve its gets her bouncing up and down in the car seat and swaying from side to side in harmony with her hands in the air and legs bouncing up and down with joy. It makes your heart warm just watching her with a big smile on her face enjoying the simple things in life.

For a while now Maeve has been trying to clap, but without success; Either her hands don’t make contact or not in a way that causes a sound to be generated. Today that changed and with “Si Tu Dois Partir” Maeve (to her own joy) started to clap in time to the tune…

Life’s simple pleasures are by far the best.

Here is a picture I took of Maeve on the beach at the back of our house on Thursday April 2 2009.

Maeve on beach

Isn’t she pretty :)

For various reasons my wife could not pick Maeve up from the creche today so I did the honours. I arrived around 17:50, Maeve saw me and rushed over demanding hugs – life does have its great moment. Anyway went further into the creche and the “wobblers” room where Maeve’s coat and bottles were stored. I put Maeve down, gathered her stuff and then “chassed” her out of the wobber room towards the exit with Maeve squeeling with delight. Along the main hall there are four child-proof gates to negotiate. You can imagine my surprise when my 14 month old went up and opened all four of them in sequence; pushing the button on top of the gate (and which she cannot see) and pulling open the gate.

Smart girl. Time at home to migrate to lock and key on the gates we have.

I was out most of the day Saturday doing this and that – you know how it is. Anyway my wife asked if  I would take our Daughter along for “protection”  – and a little hard-nut she looks too.

Maeve

Maeve did couple of things today I have not seen before:

1) Humming a tune. I don’t know what it was (if anything – she is only just 1) but she definitely was humming.

2) Clicking her tongue – you know when you use your tongue to make the sound of a horses hooves on a road.

I wonder what she will learn tomorrow?
