Its amazing how fast they learn to walk, and I am impressed at Maeves progress. On 26th Dec 2008 Maeve took her first three steps; by Monday February 2nd 2009 she could follow me from living room to kitchen and back. By today February 9th she pretty much walks everywhere (with the odd fall) and she is so proud of herself.
From 1st steps to regular walking = 38 days.
I forgot to mention the fact that Maeve has 8 teeth with 3 coming through – thats 11.

It had to happen sometime; and that day was today – Monday 9th Feb 2009 at 19:00. The rot has started and things only go down from here.
What can be so bad? Well today Maeve had her first “MacDonalds” meal!!! – admitedly only a couple of chicken nuggets, but her parents were in a rush and were hungry. No excuse for corrupting a minor with junk food, but we caved in.
Sorry Maeve. Please forgive us.

Life as a father of a one year old, as many of you will understand, is a tiring thing. You never get enough sleep and you always sleep lightly so you can keep an ear out for any cries in the night. I have to admit to thinking I am handling this well. Well not today and tiredness caught up to me.
My wife and I get up between 6am and 6:30am during the week to start the days work – getting baby ready for the creche and hopefully missing the morning rush-hour. My wife dropped my off at the local train station at 07:30 and I could the one hour train journey to Dun Laoghaire where my client is based. Around two thirds of the way I must dropped off for a second and I did not wake up until I had missed my intended stop and had carried on for an extra 20 minutes. I remember waking up and being startled at looking out the window to be greeted by unusual and excellent views over Bray head from Dalkey.
To cut a long story short I was an hour late for work.
I must get more sleep.

Late this evening Maeve decided to improve her walking ability – you can tell this by her repeated attempts, again and again getting up whenever she fell over and going from Mom to Dad and back again. At the start of the day she could walk 5 steps, ten minutes latter she was up to 18 and making a regular 10 step trip from couch to sofa.
Maeve we are proud of you.

My – our beloved daughter Maeve today is one years old; and what a treasure she is, and what joy she brings to each and every day of our lives. Today is Friday and apart from work we spent it quietly together as a family. Maeves first party is on Sunday with the family decending for a big shindig.
We have been looking at photographs of Maeve taken over this past year and are amazed at the change. In the beginning she was a small quiet bundle of joy who would fit lightly in my hand and arm. Now a year later she is a heavy boistrous bundle of laughing energy soaking up information at a phenominal rate and her physical coordination is excellent – knows how to use a spoon and can walk a couple of steps.
Everyone who meets her is bowled over by her and “how beautiful she is”. We are truely blessed.
