I am working on a project, and am spending a fair bit of time trying to get the Java Virtual Machine to perform better. This is very much a black art and in reality there is not much out there in the ether to look at. I did however find this excellent page on the JVM Parameters you can use which provides much more information that “java -help” which only lists the basics.
The only downside is I would like to more information on what a load of the parameters do…. Anyway hope you find this useful.

Maeve is well, healthy and happy – thanks be to God; And is now two months old – and what a wonderful and happy change she has brought to my wifes and mine. We are a family, and what a beautiful Girl we have. The last couple of weeks she has been sleeping 6-8 hours through the night, never cries unless she is hungry or wants her nappy changing. Listening to the horror stories of some other parents about sleep-less nights that go on for years, some children who are severely physically and/or mentally impaired  and we are very very lucky so far.

Today though ….. Maeve has her very first cold. A little cough and a runny nose.

On the train into work this morning I came across an article in the Free Newspaper “The Metro” titled “Baby name? How about Tuna Fish?”.

The names given to some children are:

  1. Wrath Gordon
  2. Major Slaughter
  3. Post Office
  4. Candy Stohr
  5. Cash Guy
  6. Happy Day
  7. Good Bye
  8. Lotta Beers
  9. Rasp Berry
  10. Tuna Fish
  11. Monster Moor
  12. Goblin Fester

Names are important, my wife and I spent a fair bit of time deciding on one that sounded nice, was Irish, could not be abreviated to something awful. The parents who chose the names above are either warped, cruel or both.

On the train in this morning I came across a little article which blew my mind away – the very odd story (listed in many places) about an American woman who has sat on a toilet seat for two years!!! so long in reality that her skin had melded with the toilet seat. In the end they had to use a crow-bar to remove the seat and cart the lot off to the hospital where they managed to eventually separate woman from toilet. Bizzare or what!!!
Why did not the boyfriend do anything sooner rather than just leaving her to sit on the loo – not feeding her I would have thought would have helped her leave the safety of the bathroom. Anyway its nice to know that life definitely has it whacky side.

Maeve is seven weeks one day old (well will be at 14:15) and this morning we caught her sucking her thumb for the first time. Lets hear it now – aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.
