Archive for August, 2008

I know that this blog is in danger of turning into one long series about my daughter Maeve, but she IS my first child and I AM smitten by her.

Maeve is seven and a half months old and growing fast – not only in size but mental capacity is well. Maeves second tooth made an appearance a couple of weeks ago and she is growing into a fine young lass. Her hair is still pretty much non-existant, but is appears to be growing – best of all its a glorious ginger colour.

Like most babies Maeve loves “peek-a-boo” where either myself for X hide and jump out and shout “boo”; Maeve finds this hillarious and often in fits of giggles. Sometimes of late we have been putting a small tag blanket we bought off ebay over her head and pulling it off her head and shouting “boo” to the same joyous sounds of her laughter.

A new twist happened yesterday (Thursday August 28th 2008) when I drapped my ring-sling (wonderful things highly recommended any parent gets one) over her middle to keep her warm; You can imagine my surprise when she picked it up in her two hands (she is getting strong enough to wield like a club my keyboard) and pulled it up over her head covering her face, a couple of seconds latter – and I am pretty sure its true – she pulled it down and said “boo”. She repeated this trick a number of times but without the “boo”; I was absolutely thrilled, bowled over – cannot describe my joy. I believe Maeves first word is “boo”, and boy is she learning things fast.

I said this before, becoming a parent is the best thing I have done – well that and marrying my wonderful wife. You don’t need to be a multi-millionaire, or have lots of land. All you need is a good wife and a loving family.

Today Maeve is 7 months old – and it was spent at her cousin’s Killian’s 2nd Birthday party at my sisters and Mothers home in Navan County Meath. We just got back after a great day despite the awful weather – on the way up we had to drive through 1-2 foot of water which was flowing across N3 between Tara and Dalgan Park.

One thing Maeve has been doing of late is that when she sleeps, she sleeps on her side; Before she slept exclusively on her back. It is amazing how things change in such a short time. It was just like a switch being thrown.

And she is loved.

As the old nursery rhyme goes … “Rain, Rain, Go Away, please come back another day”. And yesterday it rained torrentially all day – big heavy drops like a wall. According to rte 3″ of rain fell in 24 hours; Flash floods everywhere: Port tunnel closed, M50 flooded to several feet in some places, N3 three feet deep. Amazing since it’s August. Meant of course that we were unable to travel to an 70th birthday party back in my home town of Navan.

When wiill the politicians realize that there is such a thing as global warming.

When I signed up with digiweb I had their line-of-sight option – after a year when DSL became available where I live I upgraded to a 3MB ADSL “DSL extra” packageĀ  with a static IP address. You can imagine my delight this week when a colleague at work mentioned that Digiweb had for free doubled the line rates for DSL customers (I cannot find an announcement); Best of all IT’s True … have a look here and when I checked the lines rates for my modem – its true!!!!

All in the Leeson family say a BIG THANK YOU DIGIWEB.
